I’ve found out, from Radu – as I don’t read the news – that Oracle bought Sun in an 7.4 billion us dollars deal. I’m not a big fan of Oracle, as I see it to becoming the “new Microsoft”. Oracle’s CEO and founder – Larry Ellison – made this clear on several occasions. He wants his company to be number one. And of course, getting to top means making some very unpopular business decisions.
The next move Oracle will make will be buying a Linux company, most likely RedHat. I’m willing to bet on this. Then, Oracle will have in its portfolio technologies like Oracle, Java, Solaris, MySQL and a Linux distribution. With Solaris, Sparks, Java and Oracle DB will dominate the enterprise market, with Linux, Oracle and Java will dominate the middle market and Linux, MySQL, Java and PHP – Oracle has a partnership with Zend Technologies – will be used for the web.
The future’s bright, the future’s Ora…cle 😛
